Anecdotally I'm hearing about quite a few people who have NL ties who've moved back, to ride out the pandemic. These are people who are now working from home and NL has a lot to offer (fewer restrictions, smaller towns/cities) Families like this one: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/toronto-couple-nl-exemption-1.5857579 1/
There's a lot of opportunity here even if they just move here for a year or two, these are generally well paid people who will start paying NL taxes. Some may stay forever. It supports a sluggish real estate market. I haven't seen the province doing anything to promote this 2/
Nova Scotia has a whole campaign to attract people who are now suddenly mobile, and may want out of a bit city shoe box condo/apartment. https://workfromnovascotia.com/ 3/
But what about the risk of people bringing in COVID? Yes it's real but that's what 14 days of quarantine protects you from. It's worked so far.
With greater restrictions and lockdowns elsewhere, we become an even more attractive place to be, but no one is promoting it! 4/4
