The repercussions of Wednesday’s insurrection are still reverberating through my brain, as I am sure they are yours. I don’t think that people realize how close we came, the United States, to seeing congressmen and congresswomen, even the vice president and portions of the chain
of succession, murdered in the Capitol Building. I have been accused of being alarmist throughout President Trump’s term and have been dismissed for calling the administration fascist. Is there any question now? Put it all together. In the events leading up to the election,
with the default setting of well entrenched gerrymandering and voter suppression, the closing down of drop boxes and polling stations in minority neighborhoods, the destruction of the post office inner workings, the attempted addition of a ridiculous third party candidate,
the expulsion of the cybersecurity chief, and the intimidation of any and all civil servants before and after the election, there is no question as to what was happening. And then afterward, the placement of sketchy, hyper-partisan characters in exceptionally sensitive positions
at the Pentagon, and now we see why. No National Guard, no police backup for what was to come. The sand in the gears of an emergency response was placed intentionally. This is chilling stuff. Law enforcement fighting against law enforcement.
Capitol Police doing what was right versus Capitol Police doing what THEY thought was right. The grooming of police departments for expressly this purpose has been ongoing. White supremacists have infiltrated our law enforcement, theoretically also a default setting.
The Big Lie was that the election was rigged. The Big Lie is that law enforcement always does the right thing. Minorities have always known this. Off duty police officers were flashing their badges to get into the Capitol Building as part of an insurrection to overturn
the results of a “free and fair” election. Of course this was where we were going. The party of Lincoln is the party of Nixon, the party of Helms, and Goldwater and Reagan, but they hide behind the tagline because it gives them cover. Like some police officers who hide behind
their badge and abuse their powers to inflict pain and death on those they don’t like or don’t look like them. Don’t kid yourself. Preachers who hide behind their vestments or titles in order to violate the trust of their flock by using them for their own ends.
Hiding behind tax exempt status to line their own pockets. Doctors, whose motto is, “First, do no harm” showing up in support of a president who has willfully ignored a pandemic that has killed thousands of Americans day after day after day.
And military or retired military violating their oath to the Constitution. For this guy? The draft dodger? The least holy, the least healthy, the least law abiding, the least truly patriotic man to ever hold the office of the presidency. This guy.
It’s all about him. It always has been. It’s not about you. Even the true believers. He’s using you, all of you. And no, we are not going to come together in the name of “unity” as he and his followers literally kill people. Howl and scream all you want about the First Amendment.
There’s a reason why you can’t yell “fire” in a crowded theater. Wake the fuck up.
