Follow along: $FB acquired #whatsapp for approx $19b USD in 2014...But since that acquisition
Facebook has failed to unlock material net new revenue opportunities from its darling, WhatsApp
So what’s happening in February, #WhatsApp will begin sharing data with the Facebook family of products
This defeats the primary value proposition for WhatsApp: #Privacy
So what’s the difference: On #WhatsApp, ppl share sensitive personal information, texts, photos and other proprietary knowledge you wouldn’t want shared or distributed elsewhere
So why now: There is growing Bipartisan support to breakup $FB and #bigtech Deeper integrations with the $FB ecosystem makes the case to decouple WhatsApp from the rest, that much more difficult
So what can I do about it: you still have until Feb before changes take effect. I suggest downloading the @signalapp
Big Tech is increasingly wielding their power in frightening, inconsistent and often, overreaching ways. I think $FB is the biggest culprit. Get @signalapp
