This morning’s @Missoulian was really something. I sat at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee and read headlines on the front page and thought, damn, where have you guys been? The three articles were written by @DavidErickson, @AshleyNerbovig and @SeabornLarson. Thread alert
This is simply good journalism and kudos to the @Missoulian for today’s front page. I did a screen grab of the headlines to show what the editors and reporters have done, its worth your time to read.
David wades into the weeds of the trump tax cuts and does an excellent job of laying it all out. Editors write the headlines and this one is a beauty, 3.4 percent wealthiest got 719$ million from law.
David writes the benefits of the tax cut “were disproportionately skewed toward those in the upper income brackets.” He notes that Daines and Gianforte voted for the tax cut for the wealthy while Tester voted against it.
The story quotes Daines as he continues to defend his giveaway to the wealthy. Then the story dives into Gianforte’s tax plan for Montana and quotes a story written by Holly Michels.
She noted under Gianforte’s tax plan earning from $40,000-$63,000 would see a reduction of about $14. 14 bucks. Oh boy. Don’t spend it all in one place.
Ashley draws a straight line from trumps lies about the election straight to Helena and the Montana legislature writing that “… some Montana politicians who have promoted misinformation in the past are taking this falsehood from social media and helping it spread.”
She lists serial liar Theresa Manzella as one who posts crap saying the election was stolen. She then brings it to Rep Brad Tschida for his lies when he claims those who stormed the Capital were not trump supporters, and she points to Brad’s FB posts
the dope actually posts on false treatments for the corona virus and the legitimacy of the election. It was delicious to see Tschida get skewered, he earned it.
The real outrage though comes from Missoula County Deputy Sheriff Ryan Dunster who has been posting shit on FB defending the action of those who stormed the Capital, ” …we the people are watching with our own eyes that the protesters did storm the capitol but hurt no one,”
Officer Brian Sicknick’s family would like a word with Dunster. It should be noted that Dunster is a member of the Seeley Lake Elementary School Board.
If Deputy Sheriff Dunster is going to support and lie about the armed insurrection at our Capital he needs to find a new job, and he damn well should be removed from the school board.
Seaborn’s lede also draws a straight line from the lies about a stolen election to the Montana legislature. Take a look at the jump headline the editors used, “Please see Insurrection page 6” Insurrection. Woof.
Manzella gets the star treatment, and deservedly so. She needs all the antiseptic sunlight the press can bring. But get a load of the crap from Rep. Steve Gunderson, Reptile, Libby, who says the certification of the election is the real coup.
The story then quotes former GOP legislator Mathew Monfortson, "Unfortunately, there are not enough Republicans who are saying what needs to be said, that Trump's allegations of an election being stolen are complete lies.”
Amazing statement. There is more, you need to go read the story. Seaborn knocked it out of the park. Kudos to these three reporters and the editors at the @Missoulian
