Agreed. Consistently opposing illiberalism is important. But it's also OK to choose to fight one. The best people to focus on fighting Trumpism are ethical conservatives. The best people to focus on CSJ are ethical leftists. 1/2 https://twitter.com/SwipeWright/status/1348313027062366208
The best people to address any problem in any ideology is people who believe in that ideology & this is also how it tends to work out. The people who argue that one kind of Christian is doing it wrong are usually Christians. A Jew wouldn't think there's a right way to do it. 2/3
This is kind of how I feel about conservatism. I can recognise the need for ethical conservatives to be part of the conversation & like & respect individual conservatives, but I can't argue for the right way to do conservatism because I don't think there is one.
That doesn't mean I don't think conservatives have anything to offer or that there aren't more or less ethical forms of conservatism. If everybody was a progressive & nobody was trying to conserve anything, we'd get in a mess fast.
But I still think liberal leftism is the way to go. Liberals can be left or right because liberalism wants to reform rather than revolutionise unjust institutions but leftist economic & social policies are needed to ensure equal opportunity for all.
