Banning Trump from various social media platforms was a necessary step given what he did and could do in the next 10 days, but it does very little to deal with how Facebook et al algorithmically radicalized that mob. The context for the insurrection was created online through rampant spread of misinformation and recommendation engines that push people to more extreme content. If we have learned anything over the last four years, it's that these companies will not make changes on their own. They will only do so under extreme pressure and scrutiny.
