Kanye West : Musical Mastermind (A Thread)
Kanye Omari West is more than just a rapper, record producer, and fashion designer ; he is the most influential artists we have seen for decades. Childish Gambino,Lupe Fiasco,Kid Cudi, Drake and Travis Scott have all been influenced by Kanye and his ability to create masterpieces
The College Trilogy : Easily some of Kanye’s best work, perfectly describing Kanye’s humble beginnings, his connection to Chicago and his life changing car crash. The innovative production defined the albums. From the complex “Gone” to the simplistic “Everything I am”, magical.
808s & Heartbreak : Groundbreaking.
Kanye’s essence greatly shifted, from energetic production to bleak, sombre beats. Losing his mother and breaking up with his GF allowed him to open up on this album and share his pain. This saw his first collab with Cudi, truly masterful.
MBDTF : His Magnum Opus
After the 2009 VMA’s scandal, Kanye retreated and came back with arguably his greatest work.
He assembled icons and explored his status as a celebrity, rap culture, race and love. After laying low, this was the perfect comeback to please the fans.
Watch the Throne : Music Royalty
Teaming up with icon Jay-Z, Kanye created an album that illustrates the duo’s chemistry. With Club bangers like “ N***** in Paris” the album has it all. One beautiful track is “Murder to excellence” which truly encompasses black brilliance.
Yeezus : Experimental Excellence
After mastering maximalism on MBDTF, Kanye continued and created Yeezus. Brash production, Godly claims and extreme confidence define the album. It’s a three dimensional album that comes to an calm end with “Bound 2”, declaring his love for Kim.
The Life of Pablo : A Classic
After calamity with Tidal, the album was released in 2016. With several changes, the final product is my personal favourite album. Kanye frankly captured all elements of his sound and shared it with numerous features. No bold statement, just artistry
Ye : Exploring Kanye’s mind
Kanye really delves into his mental health on Ye. He shares how he believes his Bipolar is a “superpower”. Similar to 808s, Kanye is again paving the way for artists to share their pains and troubles. The less brash sound revealed Ye’s true softness.
Kids See Ghosts : Psychedelic Prominence
Kanye and Cudi’s collab album further explored mental health which also encompasses bold production. Like Yeezus, the album has boisterous sounds that come to a calm end in “Cudi Montage”. Kanye and Cudi bring out the best in eachother.
Jesus is King : Gospel Greatness
Despite not being the critic’s favourite piece, JIK is still a great album. Kanye explores his faith and shows his love for Jesus in this album. The uplifting production ties well with the albums positive outlook, while also spreading God’s word.
