Let's move it away from conservative speech and talk about the real world impact here.

To begin, we experience it as conservatives been banned.

What is happening is speech that is counter to leftwing standards are the problem.
If you discuss transgender issues outside of established progressive LGBT-approved ways, you can be banned.

If you discuss abortion, religious liberty, racial equality or any number of topics, its the same.

Conservative views are coded into hate speech policy.
The other consequence of this is political activism.

Supporting the Republican candidate is now a policy violation because it automatically means you are spreading all the bad ideas liberals want to ban.

Questioning official government and news positions is too.
The tangible experience is one of thought regulation.

'If I say this I could be silenced. I have to edit myself. I have to phrase it differently. Or I just don't talk about it all.'

Up until now this has been hit or miss. Depends on the mood of the person reviewing the report.
Before the consequence was losing your twitter account and maybe making another one.

Now a ban could mean losing everything from all social media accounts to your email to web hosting to payment systems all in one swoop if your speech offends the wrong people.
Now we are seeing simply attending a political rally is enough to be targeted for not only removal from one social media platform but all of them simultaneously and then aggressively other online services.

Political activism against the left has become a risk.
For us this has been understood all along and many reason if they get banned they'll just use a different service and then another and then another until they're mailing out coded newsletters or whatever.

But for a regular person this means something very different.
The threat of being labeled a white supremacist or a terrorist for having evidence they supported Trump in the last 4 years or so is enough to make any regular person not want to engage in politics ever again.

Facebook is how people connect with their personal world.
Everyone walked into the 2016 election energized because many never cared about politics before. They used their voice in their own world on social media without a second thought.

Now that is risky.
Groups are banned.
Photos are removed.
News posts suspend a user.
When this purge passes, as they always do, the people who were not limited or banned will think themselves lucky and a lot of them will simply choose not to risk their online life again by engaging in politics at all.

Its just not worth it and the left is too aggressive.
That's why we - those who have chosen a public and active political see it first.

We edit ourselves.
I do.

Imagine worrying that you could lose your job and Google deletes your account and you can't even like your sister's baby photos now because you engaged in a politics once.
That is why I am advocating for Political Affiliation to be a protected status.

Not necessarily for us who know how to navigate these controversies. But for the average person who is now afraid to publicly support the next Republican leader that inspires them.
