Do capitalism and racism work together to harm people?
Racism and capitalism became entwined when Portuguese created race based slavery in the 1400’s. Capitalism as it stands is in this country is a result of that racial
capitalism that is now tied to racism and practice in almost every country that does not have a homogeneous population. It is to easy to refuse a job to a person of color in this unchecked capitalist system. You can argue that capitalism did not create racism, I would argue back,
but it is the greatest tool that is used to disproportionally harm bipoc. There are too many white people in power whom dont want that to change. Those rich elite inherited generational wealth that was created on the backs of enslaved africans but pretend they were the
ones that work hard for that. In this country there is an extra connotation that if you have money you are morally good and of you are poor your are lazy and morally bad. This is how they keep poor people down and they use capitalism to do it because whomever has the money in
this country has the power. You can buy laws and votes. So if you can pay off any crime then the law only exists for the poor. If you are poor you cant pay for healthcare, you get sick and you get deeper into poverty and it’s almost impossible to get out. This is the reality for
the families of the kids that I used to teach on the west and south side of Chicago. And when you want to tweak capitalism a little bit to help those whom are exploited by the system they call you a socialist. Even in a pandemic when the rich racist white elite that runs the
country cant even send 2k to it’s citizens because “some don’t need it.” This shows their white privilege, thinking they know better than those whom are directly impacted by these policies, and that they have never been victims of capitalism this way. In fact while people were
loosing jobs, getting sick, and becoming homeless the leaders of capitalism are making billions and paying workers an unlivable wage. US employers cut 140,000 jobs in December, according to the latest jobs report. Women of color accounted for all the losses, losing 156,000 jobs,
while men gained 16,000. Even white women got more jobs over the pandemic. This is white supremacy, racism, classism, and racial capitalism working together. So tell me how is capitalism not a part of racism?
