The very disrespected AWB - a thread
AWB has 9 G/A in 90 appearances that’s 10% of his games he’s had a Goal or assist, Luke Shaw has 9 G/A in 168 appearances.
AWB has the same amount of G/A this season than the Generational attacking fullback TAA and AWB is getting more disrespect than TAA
He’s clearly been showing signs of improvement when attacking but people are expecting world class attacking to come overnight
Last season he had 85% pass accuracy with 2 less open play assists than TAA and the most successful tackles in the league out of every player, he also has the most successful tackles won in the whole year of 2020
Not too mention this is his 3rd season as a RB and has much to improve on and your just not giving him enough time like he’s meant to do it overnight, he’s also the same age as Rashford but when its Rashford it’s “give him time he’ll improve” keep the same energy for AWB
This narrative of attacking fullbacks is getting blown way out of proportion to the point people want strikers in right back ffs

Pep literally plays sterling on the complete other side of the pitch to AWB because sterling simply cannot get past him but people ignore that to slander him for not being able to put a ball in the box perfectly and are not willing to give him time to improve
Everyone’s been talking about his positioning and leaving the back post wide open however don’t seem to remember Shaw’s has always been the same and even Telles’s since he’s come but from the left back position, they all tuck in to protect to centre back closest to them
And let’s just say it’s all AWBs fault and he really needs to improve his Positioning, no ones willing to give him enough time to improve and just wants him replaced but are willing to give Rashford who’s the same age all the time in the world
People say “just slide tackling isn’t good enough” and “he just knocks it out for a throw in and we lose possession” he’s literally doing his job of keeping from getting past him which is literally the definition of defending, it’s not about how he does it as long as he is
I am completely for buying another RB to push him to keep his spot in the starting 11 but wanting him out because you think we should resign Welbeck because he has the technical ability to get past players on the flank and would be able to put a cross in good enough
Since all the debates with fullbacks have now came to G/A let’s talk about how Cancelo has 1 G/A in 29 appearances and all I hear is he’s amazing, AWB is a better defender and is averaging a G/A more often? I’m not taking anything away from him but this shows the AWB disrespect
AWB vs City last season was hands down the best individual performance a player has had at this club since easy Pogbas game vs city 3/4 years before, his standards became so high everyone was expecting nothing less than AWB to win the ball
This thread is not to say he’s already good enough at attacking because he’s not, but I’m sick of everyone discrediting his defensive ability because he’s not improved his attacking ability yet, it doesn’t come overnight ffs, he needs time to improve like everyone else
This thread isn’t solid evidence with heat maps and loads of statistics the majority of it is just me expressing how I feel on how our fanbase treat him
