Be kind to people. As the Covid death toll rises, South Africa is in a complex state of collective grief, with none of the usual support structures available. Our people are hurting, and healing isn't easy when human touch is not available.
We are all hearing of deaths on a daily basis. We can rarely attend the funeral, religious services, or even go to the bereaved family's house to comfort them.
This isn't normal. It isn't human.

People are going about their lives with incredible amounts of unprocessed loss. This is toxic and unsustainable. Eventually the centre will not hold.
My advice to everyone is to increase our ability to show kindness, compassion and empathy to each other. These individual acts of interpersonal generosity will go a long way in creating spaces that allow people to live with their grief.
Until time heals. And it usually does.
