This is the issue. ‘My great-grandparents’. The vast majority of American Jews are so far removed from antisemitism that they can’t recognise it unless it’s blatantly obvious. Which leads to Jewish celebrities such as @SarahKSilverman endorsing genocidal movements like BDS.
Those descended from Jews who fled Eastern Europe in the 1800s, who have had America has a safe refuge from antisemitism for hundreds of years, are NOT the authority of what is and what is not antisemitism, especially when their track record is only calling out the far right,
comparing detention centres to the Holocaust, Trump to Hitler, and defending left-wing antisemitic politicians such as AOC, Omar, and Tlaib.
It sets a dangerous precedent when the most assimilated, most ‘comfortable’ Jews are listened to about antisemitism, but not those of us who have personally lived through antisemitic regimes & governments, or are descended from Shoah survivors
Just because it makes non-Jews ‘uncomfortable’, doesn’t align with their political values, or forces them to acknowledge the antisemitism in their own movements.
