Harris cut all provincial funding for public health, then went to 50% the year after.

Liberals took 10 years to restore funding back to percentage the province contributed.

Destabilizing public health funding has long term consequences that we’re currently witnessing. #onpoli https://twitter.com/torontostar/status/1348246972323524616
The province typically provides 75% of funding, municipalities make up the remaining 25%.

After SARS, experts suggested province covers 100% to maintain stable funding.

Right before COVID, the Ford govt destabilized public health funding once again.
The Ford govt announced major cuts, and scaled back after massive public outcry (only in 2019, y’all).

But now the cost share is 70% (province) - 30% (municipal).

Many local public experts left and many jobs were lost just from this.
The Ford govt also planned to cut the public health units from 35 to 10 before the pandemic as a “modernization” effort for “efficiencies”.

Recently, the Ford govt resumed these consultations with public health units even as they work hard to respond to COVID.
(So excuse me if I don’t give a damn about cheesecakes or whatever PR tool they use to make Premier Ford relatable.

He’s still the same Ford.)
