I’ve seen a few comments here like “The second vaccine dose is rough, but suck it up - it’s good for you.” This is not a reasonable policy solution. I had the second dose on Friday. I was out of commission for most of Saturday with chills, headache, myalgias, and fatigue.
I couldn’t have worked yesterday and we shouldn’t expect others too. But there are many essential workers who should get the vaccine but can’t get time off. One policy to consider would be to extend guaranteed COVID sick time to people who get the vaccine.
People would then have time to recover after the vaccine if needed without fear of losing their job. The benefit of the vaccine far outweighs the side effects, but we still need policy that acknowledges that some people won’t feel well for 1-2 days following administration.
