I’m old enough to remember when one of the key planks of the Republican Party was law and order. Now, the @GOP is stacked with politicians *and* voters who just want to grift and hold power, no matter the cost. There must be no “moving on” from this. Heads must roll.
GOP politicians and conservative media flacks are pompously intoning about “lowering the temperature,” “healing,” and “moving on” because they got caught crossing a bright line, and they know it. Suddenly, the relentless attack dogs of Benghazi want to forgive and forget.
There is no solution but to punish these people, from the very top on down, will the full force of the law, if for no other reason than to show you can’t avoid accounting for such transgressions. So what if they are not convicted (even if they should be)?
Refusing to prosecute willful malefactors will only encourage others to overthrow our democracy again, and we cannot and should not count on the next guys being such a pathetic bunch of incompetent losers, because they won’t be.
The reputations and political careers of the leaders should be destroyed, and the lives of their malevolent sheep followers should be forever damaged by the consequences of their own actions, if only to deter copycats. Metaphorical heads must rot on pikes for all to see.
The way our system is set up, the USA needs a legitimate center right party to contend with the Democrats, but the current GOP is not it. If Republicans ever want to matter again, they should be leading the charge to purge their own party of the filth who have overtaken it. /end
