The people who are overreacting on WhatsApp are the same people who are comfortable using Google, Gmail, Android phones and G-maps... Google possess more data and knows more about you than WhatsApp & Facebook combined.
Remember if you're not paying for the service... YOU are the product.
You do have a choice on you want to use Signal or Telegram or WhatsApp. But all this sudden discovery that Signal / Telegram is better and safer than WhatsApp is just hilarious.
Telegram is founded by Russian brothers with its operational center based in Middle east/ Dubai. Just like WeChat has Chinese interference.. The risk of governments or non-state/state actors spying into your conversations and data is equally high.
I am not saying whether WhatsApp changing its policies is right or wrong. Look at what the WhatsApp founders wrote in 2012 on why they won't sell ads before they sold it to Facebook. So nothing stops Telegram to be bought tomorrow by a Google or Microsoft or some other company
I find Signal app very buggy and unstable.. it is not even able to scale up the new users surge. Just because it is open source and crowd funded, it doesn't mean its success is guaranteed or can survive long terms. Funding sustainability and Security vulnerabilities is a problem
Again - you have a choice whether to use or stop using WhatsApp or Signal or Telegram l but I find the whole herd mentality of suddenly thinking that one is saint and other is evil - so hilarious and uninformed.
