Trust me, read this thread:

In 1926 Horeb Publishing printed a set of Mishnayot (Jewish law books) in Berlin, Germany. In the foreword they printed a "Letter to the Reader." In this letter they addressed the repeated principle in the Mishna not to trust Gentiles.

They explained that German Gentiles were different than the idolatrous a&cruel Gentiles of the past and could be trusted. Here is a portion of the letter:

"It’s also universally known that the laws of idol worship refer to ancient nations, which did not know the true God

and did not believe in the revelation and His Torah. They also didn’t recognize ethics and loving one’s fellow. But, in our times, and in European countries in particular, the nations whose lands we dwell securely under a shade of kindness —

Their powerful, merciful kings, may they be exalted, recognize the true creator. They believe in revelation and His holy Torah. They preserve ethical structures and loving one’s fellow."

This was published a mere nine years before Hitler ימ"ש came to power and thirteen years before the "merciful, kind Germans who preserve ethical structures and lone one's fellow" would begin gassing six million Jews to death.

It is almost inconceivable to think that German Jews could be this naïve and trusting of their German neighbors. How did they not see what was right around the corner?
Of course, when we read this in the context of Jewish history, we realize this a repeated phenomenon.

Jews trust their Gentile neighbors thinking that this time it will be different. After few years, decades, or centuries, history repeats itself and the Gentiles they trusted turn out to be just as all other Gentiles - anti-Semites who kill Jews.

My Rabbi, who died this summer, Rav Sinai, הריני כפרת משכבו, kept a copy of this set of Mishnayot in his study. Whenever American Jews would visit him to hear his story and lessons on the Holocaust he would end his talk by pulling this set of Mishnayot off the shelf

and warning them that although they feel that America is different than past Gentile nations, the German Jews felt the same.
Only time will tell if America will be unique and not turn on its Jews, but if history is our guide, than this introductory page is instructive.
