There's no doubt council tax is regressive & needs reform.

But anyone genuinely interested in helping the poorest through the current crisis, more so than political positioning, doesn't start there.
Some things that should happen first:
👉Increase all rates in UC & remove two child limit & benefit cap (extending £20/week uplift falls far short).
👉Increase UC work allowances & cut taper rate.
👉Free tech for remote learning
👉Increase funding for care & homelessness services
Even with levies as regressive as council tax, tax cuts are an inefficient way to support those who most need it.

For a key op-ed signifying support for families through the recession, this isn't really good enough.
