After studying in KNUST for 4 yrs, and doing my national service as a TA at SMD, and later proceeding to KCCR to work as a Research Assistant which has helped me gain a scholarship to undertake an MPhil in Clinical Microbiology, I've this to share.
A thread
#WelcomeToKNUST
I gained admission to KNUST in 2014 to offer BSc Biological Sciences after I had left Legon that same year. Peer pressure took me to Legon as I was offered late admission in 2013 and couldn't afford to sit at home whiles my mate went to the university.
I came to KNUST having learnt so much from the time and resources I wasted in Legon. Dear fresher, don't hesitate to drop that course if you seem to be a square peg in a round hole when it comes to the rubrics of the course you've been offered.
I begun my BSc. journey in Knust in Sep, 2014 and I must say I did enjoy every bit of it's ups and downs. From lectures, to Midsems and having fun to main exams, I made sure I just didn't pass through KNUST but it passed through me as well.
You might have been advised by parents to just come and study and go to church but I say, that's not the only reason you're in KNUST. Build connections, take risks, and equally study to make the grades. A blend of all these is what will partly determine your fate after university.
Do just to all manner of persons on campus, from cleaners to security men, TAs to lecturers and the hawkers at the canteen. When my 4 yr stay was due, the the VC, Prof OBIRI DANSO who had taught me microbiology in 2nd yr advised me to do my Nat'l service at Medical school.
I sent my letter to the department of clinical microbiology, where I was well received and later offered placement to do my Nat'l service. During my service, I encountered one woman who later changed my life entirely.
She is a coordinator for big scientific projects at KCCR and has a PHD in Parasitology, she offered me a side job as a data entry clerk on one of her projects and was doing it along side my duty as a TA.
In June, 2019, I was offered a full time job at KCCR and had to stop service
After working for a yr at KCCR as a Research Assistant, I was offered a full time scholarship to perdue a Master's degree in Clinical Microbiology at KNUST in December 2020.
Even though it's been grace all through, I can't ignore the numerous people that helped me along the way.
The security man at BIOSSA (Mr. Paul) who seemed to know how things worked at KNUST and always advised me on issues. The VC whose number I took during our first lecture in microbiology in 2nd yr are just a few of the relationships that has brought me this far on the way.
Prioritise relationships with people, be polite and positive, and be of goodmorals.Someday, all these will work out for your good. I pray that the Lord who has seen you through all your studies will be your light and guide in your tertiary journey. All the best #WelcomeToKNUST
