see less of yourself in. Kinning is different for everyone. Some people do it for fun, others more seriously, some for coping. You can kin a fictional character (the primary / main way most modern kinning is) , an animal, even an object. +
Kinning, at its origin ( or the traditional type of "kinning" ) is the belief you are a reincarnated animal or mythical creature. It was spiritual (and sometimes still is!) but has evolved to be a lot less serious of an act. Kinning, at its core, may seem odd at first but is +
essentially harmless. There are almost tiers to this, selfhood, otherkin, higher and lower kins. A selfhood is basically believing that character is you or most strongly relating to that character. An otherkin is a nonhuman kin, typically an animal or mythical creature. +
Higher kins and lower kins are just based on how closely you identify with them- higher being moreso and lower being less so. Factkinning (which is very , rightfully , frowned upon in the community) is the act of kinning a real life person. This is definitely the weirdest +
form of kinning as they are real people that you cannot identify with. Most "kinnies" (a term used to describe people who kin) do not condone this behavior in the community. So now that we've discussed the origins and modern forms of kinning, what can we define "a kin list" as? +
Oftentimes, to keep kins in order, people will list off their kins in a list like manner. They can be organized into categories, or just written off in one big block of text. Sometimes, you will see "doubles" mentioned on these lists. Doubles are two people +
who kin the same character or thing. Because kinning can be coping or even spiritual, people can get uncomfortable with these "doubles."
So in conclusion, a kin is a character or thing you relate to, a kinnie is a person with kins, and a kin list is a cohesive list of all of said kinnies "kins." I hope this clears things up! I will be expecting a kin list by Wednesday 3PM sharp. Have a good night!
