Theories on Bhaumakara Dynasty šŸ§µ

Scholars like Binayak Mishra and RC. Majumdar, argued that the ā€˜Bhaumakara Dynastyā€™ was associated with a tribe called ā€œBhaumaā€, whose members originally lived on the Mahendragiri mountain. (in @ Eastern Ghats: Rayagada of Gajapati district)

Binayak Mishra also believed that the Bhauma tribe was connected with the ancient ā€œUtkala raceā€, because the Chaurasi copper-plate inscription of King Shivakara II states that he belonged to the ā€œBhauma lineage of the Utkala familyā€.

Similarly, Sarala Dasa wrote in his Odia Mahabharata, that ā€œVishnu Karaā€ was the founder of the ā€˜Kara Dynastyā€™.

N.K. Sahu and some other scholars connected the Bhauma-Karas to the ā€˜Bhuyan tribeā€™ of northern Odisha or the ā€˜Bhuyan aristocratsā€™.
Binayak Mishra opined that Odisha was the original home land of Bhaumas, and that they were a nonAryan tribe and most probably same as ā€˜Bhuyansā€™.

Yet another theory connects the family to the legendary Bhauma Dynasty of ā€˜Pragjyotishaā€™ (modern Assam).
According to some ancient texts, the Bhaumas of Pragjyotisha descended from Naraka (alias Bhauma), who was a son of the God Vishnu.

This is based on the occurrence of the phrase ā€œMahendra Bhaumaā€ in a manuscript of Vishnu Purāį¹‡a.
Moreover, the Vāyu Purāį¹‡a suggests that King Guha lived in the 4th century, while the Bhaumakara Dynasty's rule started in the 8th century.

KC. Panigrahi tried to trace the origin of Bhaumkara Dynasty on the basis of the Pasupati temple inscription of Nepal. According to this: ā€œRajyamati, the queen of the Nepalese king Jayadeva, was the daughter of Harsavarman who belonged to a royal family, called ā€˜Bhagadattaā€™ +

++ and conquered Gauda, Odra, Kalinga and Kosala. Since the Bhaumas of Odisha claim their descent from Bhagadatta, Panigrahi concludes that Bhaumas of Odisha and Harsavarman, the ruler of Assam, belong to Bhagadatta.ā€

Another theory: https://twitter.com/srinibash_samal/status/1348080364057620480?s=19

So the scholars and historians haven't been able to settle conclusively the origin and chronology of Bhaumakara Dynasty. And even cannot be explained satisfactorily.
