AWS will be shutting down Parler servers. I see two potential vectors here 1) Considering now is the time for migration & this might cost Parler dearly. As those already kicked off platforms & are seeking to migrate will need to find a new home as a week is long in internet time

This means that they will likely seek to set roots on another platform. Gab might be the natural choice however it has not been able to keep up with the influx it is currently receiving so like Parler it might not be able to capitalize on all of this.

Another alternative would be Facebook lookalike MeWe, which does have a small QAnon base ATM, but again not certain that might be it. There are other options like Mastodon, Ello but they have a very small base. Which is not what these communities want.

Telegram might be an option for the masses who currently want to organize and mobilize for the 17 and 20 of january. But that is not an option for the Influencers. MyMilitia might be attractive to some the same way TheDonald or the Chans might be an option.

But none of these offer the features of Twitter and Facebook. Gab and Parler were the closest. Which leaves VK which is popular with some in far right comnunities in Quebec and Europe. Though this would now create a convergence between the Far-right and Foreign Platforms.

This also leads into my second point which is 2) Parler will be seeking new providers and like many in this situation might end up with a Russian provider as is being used by other state actors. Russia has a habit of housing Far-right sites that are persona non grata

A lot of users won't pay attention to this and probably won't care. However, considering the amount of influencers, political accounts and news account that are on Parler, if it goes with Russian provider that will be a threat vector from the perspective of foreign interference

This is in reality the consequences of deplatforming, especially an event that has this type of momentum with everyone jumping on board. The ripple effect of this has yet to be determined though we might as well start now as it will have consequences.

I don't think there is any good solution ATM, rather we should start preparing for what is to come and be proactive vs reactive. There are multiple threat vectors forming before our eyes.
