after the Civil War, done to “unify” the country. Rather than unity, that move generated obstacles to reconstruction, Jim Crow laws, monuments to confederate “heroes.” It got us Birmingham and Selma. It got four little girls murdered as they attempted to worship. (2/4)
It got MLK killed. Those pardons are why white cops don’t see black people as human beings. Those pardons are why we can’t rid the south of the vile confederate flag. Those pardons led to the insurrection — fomented largely by racist groups under Trump’s influence (3/4)
