So I’m glad that anti-diet education is catching on. But “just eat intuitively” is not helpful either. Not when people’s intuitions about food are broken.

After 28 years of just eating whatever, I started to incorporate food rules, and it has been better for me & my health. https://twitter.com/bilzyb/status/1347869482350501888
And yes, there’s pretty decent evidence that diets don’t work for weight loss. But whether you want to lose weight or not, we’re all different, and therefore will all have to eat differently based on our needs and preferences. Sometimes that happens to align with a typical diet
Also I do feel a certain way about this wave of thin white nutritionists/dietitians telling people to not diet and “just listen to your body”

Technically good advice, but if you’ve never been fat, I don’t want to hear “just eat what you want & don’t worry about it” from you
And it annoys me so much that “just eat intuitively” is almost never followed by “but I understand why your food intuition may be broken.”
Many food companies pay scientists to figure out how to make their products more addictive.

Me wanting more chips has less to do with my food intuition and more to do with Lays figuring out the perfect combination of salt, sugar, fat, and crunchiness to make me want more
I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how growing up they were always told to clean their plate, and how this has disrupted their ability to stop eating when they’re full as adults.
