Trump 2016 saved cable news, MSNBC in particular. People there not evil but all broadcast responds to market incentives. Trump has been cable rating gold.
Some in those spaces stayed inside and pushed back. Some got out. Some stayed inside and played along.
Understanding the incentives and systems structuring your news should matter in a moment like this. Mis and dis information is bigger than one ideology. It’s a system. Having been inside I’m well aware of how seductive these systems are.
TV was always my second job. For me, leaving was easier than for most. But ALL of us who ever had any of the power of TV for any moment bear some responsibility in this moment to ask about our role. This is not a fucking game.
At times I’m hurt & angry by how so many brilliant women of color in media have been silenced, abused, under valued, marginalized, but bitter? Nah sun, not bitter, cause I’ve never been confused about the limits of white folk.
