Dear Republicans, I feel your pain. I ran with the wrong crowd once. They really affirmed and supported me. They were funny & cool & I felt bigger in their company. We had a lot in common re: taste, lifestyle & beliefs.
But I started noticing how they talked down to or said mean things about other ppl... How I felt pressure to curate who else I hung out with. I noticed myself doing & saying (or not saying) things that didn’t align w who I really am.
Thank god for my loved ones who saw it too & had the courage to gently point it out to me. Thank god I allowed myself to hear them. I knew it was time to cut the cord & it took courage. They were not gracious about letting me go. I had to completely rewire my social circuits.
Some of my identity was wrapped up in it, too. I had to revisit who I really am. But breaking away was also liberating & freed me to truly be myself. It opened me up to a richer world of encounter that stretched me. It’s been a life lesson to me...
... pay close attn to who I run w & how they influence me. God does not define us by our politics. You do not betray yourself by denouncing what the GOP has become. There will be gracious ppl ready to thank you. Of course there will also be those who attack & judge you (Ds & Rs)
But they are of no consequence. People of goodwill will recognize your integrity. Blessings on your discernment. #Freedom
