Couple of important things from Jayapal's account of the Capitol Siege.

(1) Most Dems were against the back of chambers by the doors because Republicans were on the floor for debate. When the floor was evacuated, Dems were left stranded there.

(2) If there was an evacuation plan and a protocol in place, Capitol police didn't seem to be following it. They weren't even sure if the doors to chambers were locked and they had to resort to barricading the doors because NO ONE KNEW WHERE THE KEY WAS.

(3) Most Dems were stranded in chambers as long as an hour to an hour and a half before they were fully evacuated. There was very little communication about what was happening or what they should do.

Finally, they were removed to a secure location where they face new threats.

(4) About 100 house members in a room and many Republicans refusing to wear masks meant that Dems were forced to endanger themselves and their families through exposure to coronavirus.

Jayapal is still in quarantine now.

(5) And as Jayapal reminds us, none of this happened in a vacuum. This came on the heels of Trump supporters plotting to kidnap a Dem Governor. A Christmas bombing in Nashville Countless death threats to election officials. Cesar Sayoc.

The threat was real and every present.

(6) And what did Republicans do after watching their colleagues lives threatened? They marched right back into chambers and incited further violence by validating Trump's lies about election fraud.

If Republicans want unity they can start at home.

(7) By uniting to protect every member of congress from this threat. And that starts with accountability. For the president. For the police, And for Republican leadership.

They have broken their oath of office to uphold the constitution. There MUST be consequences.
