One of the most vocal advocates of the original War on Terror — @NormOrnstein, when he was at the neocon AEI before re-branding as a liberal thought leader — is calling for legislation for a new War on Terror: a domestic one.
Ornstein always sounded like Dick Cheney: still does: https://twitter.com/normornstein/status/1347969828854910979

Every component act of “terrorism” is already a crime under federal law. The US is the world’s largest prison state: the last thing it needs is new felonies.
As @WesYang asked: what do you want to make criminal that isn’t already? Speech? Organizing? What? What new powers?

The new ruling coalition as of Jan 20 is Dems/neocons/Wall.St/CIA/most-corporate media. some of the left is on board, even if they need pseudo-edgy rhetoric to pretend they’re not. They want one-party rule. A domestic War on Terror, with new terrorism laws, is absolute madness.
History moves quickly. The 9/11 attack was 20 years ago. That means nobody under 35, maybe 40, has a real political memory of it.
Liberals begging corporations to censor “extremist” speech. Emotions exploited to demand quick new anti-terrorism laws & powers? The same dynamic.

Not sure what was unclear about this part of this tweet: I didn’t say people under 35 or 40 don’t remember 9/11. Of course you remember it happening if you 15. I said it’s hard to have a “political memory” at that age: being tuned to the political dynamic and tactics used.
