...a lion is a Panthera Leo and a domestic cat is a Felis Catus. They differ in size, habitat, behaviour (domestic cats arent as agressive) prey and social structure.
Because a domestic cats genus is Felis this means they are most closely related to the sand cat, scottish wildcat, black footed cat and a jungle cat. This genus is of a small to medium sized cat species. the smallest being a black footed cat and the largest being the jungle cat
A lions genus however is panthera. This means the lions closets relatives are the jaguar, tiger, leopard and snow leopard. All of these (apart from the snow leopard) have the ability to roar.
