I don't have an important job, but it involves COVID research and I can't be super specific, but please, people, STOP TRAVELING. Stop visiting people outside your household. Get vaccinated as soon as you can. All of us in public health are just screaming into the void now.
Public health programs are chronically underfunded and then people stand around wringing their hands when a public health emergency happens. Public health officials get blamed for not implementing programs that were never funded.
It is 100% business executives making public health decisions and deciding which initiatives are "worthy" of funding. Almost all COVID task forces in the U.S. and Canada have more local business leaders than actual public health officials serving on them.
Capitalism, classism, and racism are absolutely fueling this pandemic.
If you have the privilege and proximity to get vaccinated and work from home, it is absolutely your responsibility to do so. By choosing not to, you're putting thousands of vulnerable BIPOC people and communities at risk.
