Today around 2:45, I saw a Brant sitting beside the northbound side of Marine Parkway in front of Floyd Bennett Field. He or she was clearly still alive. I pulled around and picked up the bird. He was breathing deeply and blood spilled out of his mouth. (1)
The bird had just been hit by car it seems. I couldn’t let the bird die alone there as it was cold and getting dark. I wanted to take him to @wildbirdfund, even if it was just for him to be euthanized as he was clearly in pain. Brants are pretty fierce geese and ... (2)
so for him to allow me to pick him up and wrap him in a towel, was a sign he wasn’t long for this world. The car was extra hot, hopefully to warm him. Upon entering Manhattan, I saw him perk up and take a deep breath, which would be his last. (3)
But as sad as this was, it was what any human should do. Whoever hit the bird, left him to die. Don’t know what to do? Google it and you’ll find Wild Bird Fund. And the speed limit there is 35 mph. So, slow the f*ck down, and open your eyes, Brooklyn (4) @GatewayNPS @NYPD63Pct
