To be clear, Trump is a danger to democracy and our national security, and he must be removed immediately. He should resign, and if not, Pence should initiate removal through the 25th Am. The public and media should not accept Pence/the cabinet shirking their oaths.

Separately, the House should move forward with impeachment to set a clear precedent that Trump’s anti-democratic behavior will not be tolerated in the future, and to send that message to the world. It is vital to reinforce our fundamental values through impeachment.

The unfortunate reality, though, is that it is unlikely that impeachment and Senate conviction and removal can happen much before Jan 20 (even if McConnell moves quickly, as he can), which is why the 25th Amendment — not impeachment — is the appropriate avenue for removal.
