Ight I’m going to make a thread on why Toji Fushiguro is one of the best characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, and why he’s one my fav characters

Who is Toji Fushiguro:
Toji Fushiguro is from the Zenin Clan in Jujutsu Kaisen. (I’ll get into why he changed his last name later on). Before I dive on we have to know how much the Zenin family/Clan is important to the building of character and why he acts the way he is.

The Zenin Clan is all about power and jujutsu sorcery. The also comes to how they treat their own family members. Summed up if you have no curse energy or are able to utilize it form jujutsu techniques you are seemed useless. We also see this with Maki Zenin as well.

With her being banished from her own family, Maki’s goal as Jujutsu Sorcerer is to be the strongest. So she can be the head of the Zenin Clan, because she resented the way that they treated those with no curse energy like her.

Similarly, Toji has no curse energy like Maki but thy make up for it by having a heavenly restriction. Which means they trade all of that curse energy for superb physical attributes.

The hate and trauma he got from being prejudiced just because he had no curse energy was what sculpted Toji’s character. And we see more of the depth to his character in the Hidden Inventory arc.

Toji is a very cold and mysterious character. And u get this vibe of “I’ll do what I want” and just doesn’t really have anything that interests him. However, moving on through the story we know that this is very untrue. As we know that his son is Megumi which he deeply cares.

Toji is a mercenary or tbh u could say his an assassin but the main point is that his job is to kill jujutsu sorceres. So we could say that Toji picked this job for money but the choice of that is way more deeper.

Since the Zenin family casted him out this builder up hate and pain for Toji. Thus making it his goal to prove them wrong and to show them his true strength even without curse energy. And that’s why being a mercenary was a perfect job for him to show his skills.

This way he will be able to prove them wrong and show them that there old ways is wrong. And understand they made a grave mistake casting him out of the clan. With this we see a similarity with the goals that both Toji and Maki have.

The Zenin family create a monster. A monster who has no care for anyone else but his only goal is to prove everyone wrong. So much that even with completing his job in killing the vessel he wanted to fight the strongest sorcerer, Satoru Gojo.

*SPOILERS*

However, with Gojo being an OP ass Mf he kills Toji. And as he’s life is taken away we see his thoughts and how he reminisces about his past.

Toji could have lived but with his arragonce led him to die. But do you really blame him? He was resented because of a restriction he couldn’t control, and it builded up his goal to prove them wrong. Even with a family, he abandoned them just for self affirmation.

Before he passed on, we see Toji hold his son and Gojo asked him if “you have any last word?” But he says “No my son will be sold to the Zenin Clan, do whatever you want”. This is such an important dialogue as we see that Toji the whole time was lying to himself the whole time-

He loves his son but with his unfortunate situation with the Zenin Clan transformed him into this. And with his son going to a clan he tried so hard to go against he lost his purpose.

This statement is very important in the Shibuya Arc and shows his aspects as a character overall.

Shibuya Arc:
Toji is being summoned by one of the servers holding one of the curtains in Shibuya. One of them transforms into Toji.
*Ight so this shit blew my mind cause they they brought back one of the strongest sorcerers*

So she was able to bring back his mind aswell with his body. But Toji kills the sorcerer as he’s able to get his consciousness.

After killing her Toji becomes a menace and heads on to the fight with Maki, Megumi and few grade 1 sorcerers as they fight a strong opponent.

And let’s just say that Toji went crazy in that fight.

And then we come into the fight with Megumi and Toji. And this has to be one of the most important parts in Toji’s character. This not only show’s character development but also character growth with his interaction with his son.

With his fight because Megumi using his smart mind and using tactical strategies to fight against his OP Dad as he’s not as strong as him.

This was able to give Megumi an upper for some time. During that moment this was able to trigger something in Toji’s mind and starts to think about his talk with the head of the Zenin family.

The way that Toji got “Fushiguro” was by marrying into someone with that name. He had a kid with someone and was discussing selling his child , because of the potential he sees in Megumi his son. This was of course for money and he knew he could get alot-

-because he knew his son would get him more money because he knew Megumi would be strong.

The money talk is not important,but at the end he repeats a phrase to himself. “I Don’t Care”.This phrase sums of Toji’s character as we when he’s introduced.But this is a lie in the Hidden Inventory arc and he keeps lying to himself that he does not love his son which isnt true

As he comes back to reality, he asks his son “What is your last name?”. This is such a pivotal moment and we see his growth as selfish father as at the start he didn’t even care for his kid but that was a lie through the end.

Megumi replies “Fushiguro” and Toji says “Not Zenin huh”. And then he kills himself.

Toji ambition is to prove the jujutsu world and especially the Zenin family wrong. When he dies in his battle in Gojo he knows he can’t do this on his own. We also come back to what he said to Gojo about how his son being sold to the Zenin family was when he lost his true purpose

Him hearing his own son have his last name relived him. So much that he tooo his life not only was it to not kill his son, but also was for his name change. We can infer that Toji felt his work was done as his own, as his precious son with a remarkable curse technique-

-took his name and that to him was strong enough to make him kill himself. Everything that Megumi would do would be a reflection of him as he was a Fushiguro. He is carrying on indirectly Toji’s will.

All in all, Toji Fushiguro represents those “weak” in the jujutsu world and those being prejudiced. His character depth and growth put him imo as one of the best written characters in Jujutsu Kaisen.
