The neoliberal myth of effortless precocity is why so many people are always so secretly terrified that they're going to be found out as ignorant.
It's why people cling to ideologies and end up in meme-radicalized echo chambers of bias confirmation.

American education teaches kids that it's a moral failing not to know, to be ignorant. This is in stark contrast to other educational traditions which teach unknowing as a virtue, that prize students who can articulate the limits of their knowledge.
Neoliberal Boomers fetishized precocity in millennials. That's how we ended up with Matt Ygelsias, Mark Zuckerberg, etc. They wanted instant payoff from precocious-seeming 18-year-olds and so discounted the entire idea that maybe it actually takes time to build knowledge.

Especially the closer you get to the truth.

They were just ignored.
