RJ Barrett Shot Analysis vs OKC THREAD:

Barrett was 7-21 last night, 1-5 from 3. I attached two images of the shots he took.

To sum up:

0-2 Fadeaway
1-6 Jumpshot, 1-5 from 3
4-10 layups
1-1 Driving J
0-1 Step Back J
1-1 Dunk

Stay for some shot analysis here!

0-2 Fadeaways.

Key with a fadeaway is to body your defender and create space. Gotta have accuracy + strength. In this clip, Dort defended RJ well. RJ never got in a proper post up position, footwork shaky, hesitated and took a weak fadeaway. Rushed the shot.

In this clip, RJ faces a versatile vet in Hill, who can use his wingspan and strength to guard 2s. Tries to post him up - better techniques here - but Hill didn't budge and RJ slightly hesitated before forcing up a fadeaway. Note both shots were weakside post-ups.

1-6 Jumpshots.

Think @ThomasCDee said RJ was 4-11 on uncontested shots.

RJ has to make these wide open shots. I'm no shot doctor, but his form looks ok. Posture looks fine? Knees bent too much? Dip? Fair to say a better kick out pass from Noel would help

It's counter productive to post every single miss, so here's just one more J.

RJ's gotta learn how to hit the pullup midrange J to become real good. Saw SGA hit a pullup midrange off pump fake last night. It'll go a long way towards development.

4-10 on layups.

This is a struggle point. Of the 6 misses, 4 were driving layups. Most weren't close.

Bad shot selection, perhaps RJ's thinking he's got the strength to bully the OKC defenders/bigs. Poku's a twig, but this is a bad decision trying to bully him.

Again, really bad decision and just not focusing on the scouting report. Horford's overpaid, but isn't washed as a defender. Trying to bully him and make a layup really isn't the wisest decision. Better off passing here. Horford expected the layup and was prepared.

0-1 Step Back J.

RJ channeling his inner MJ/Kobe here. Ambitious, but the issue is that he didn't really break Bazley's ankles. Thus, he didn't create as much separation as needed. Bazley's 7'0 wingspan made it easy to contest what's generally a low % shot.

*whispers.. Vivek, please be positive.*

Sure, we should see more of this. Notice, unlike the earlier tweet, RJ received an ON-TARGET (s/o @ThomasCDee and @KnicksFanTv ) pass from Julius for a wide-open corner 3. This is why fundamentals matter.

Another one! (BTW if you want more clips - QT or reply! Just limiting to a few for simplicity)

Dort tried to flop, failed. RJ saw Horford and promptly went for a weakside uncontested layup with his right hand. Great awareness here. More of that!

Of the 7-21 night, there were probably a few misses with the shot clock running out or end of game shots. Take those few shots away and maybe reduce some bad shots here and there and you're shooting near 50%. That's the crazy thing.

Anyhow, this is just amateur hour for me. I'm no expert in this.
I'm sure @KnicksFanTv and @ThomasCDee will do a breakdown. It'll be on @JCMacriNBA 's newsletter. @DallasAmico_ is a genius. @_prezidente is a shot doctor. I just try to learn a few things from them.
