Hear me out:
What if we laid to rest the language of “this is the greatest threat to the church” because it is often incorrect for following reasons:
1. It fails to apply the multifaceted way in which the Bible speaks about the nature of idolatry.
What if we laid to rest the language of “this is the greatest threat to the church” because it is often incorrect for following reasons:
1. It fails to apply the multifaceted way in which the Bible speaks about the nature of idolatry.
2. It usually is something that we don’t believe we ourselves are struggling with or are guilty of. In other words it highlights another group’s sins and not our own.
3. It assumes that one knows the sins, temptations, and needs of the church in all of its forms and contexts. What we’re struggling with in America may not be what our family in Italy are struggling with.
Maybe a better question to ask or ponder:
What is the greatest threat to my own soul or the soul of my own church? What temptations and idols are we most drawn to?

I’m just exhausted by all the “prophetic” folks who have their ministries fueled and sustained by making blanket statements on social media. (Often unintentionally, I think..)
