I know exactly who needs to hear this:

The rapture doctrine was invented in the mid 19th century by white evangelicals who opposed the church of England. There have been at least 10 predictions of when the rapture will happen since this doctrine was invented,

1/
obviously none have come to pass and none will.

From the creation of this doctrine we have the evolution of Christian Reconstructionism; dominionism; Kingdom Now theology; Seven Mountains mandate; and Christian nationalism, among others.

2/
Notions of the end times, the rapture, and eschatology have changed dramatically in the last 200 years and they all believe they have it right.

Christofascism is a term coined by Dorothee Sölle in her book Beyond Mere Obedience.

3/
A lot of Christofascist ideologies have its roots in the rapture doctrine. Christofascism is the use of Chritianity as a cover and excuse for totalitarian, imperialistic ideologies. Its goal is to overtake the whole world with a Christian totalitarian rule.

4/
The events at the US capitol this past week are not surprising, they are a direct consequence of unchecked Christofascism that has been percolating and growing in the minds of white evangelicals for the last 200 years.

Toxic theology has serious, irreversible, sometimes fatal consequences. That is why we oppose it.

Let me be super clear, the rapture is an invented doctrine, with less than 200 years of life, and it is toxic theology with serious consequences.
