In early 2018 my gut told me to fully switch to physical media.
In 2019 I spent pretty much all of my disposable income on books, DVDs, LPs and CDs
They’ve proven to be a godsend these past 12 months.
I recommend you do likewise.

Before we get into this here, here’s a link to a piece I wrote a while back on how analogue is the future.
Time appears to be vindicating me so far... https://thomasjbevan.substack.com/p/the-future-is-analogue

I’m not interested in gloating about how I was ahead of the curve on this.
I simply want to help you out if your are young enough that you have never really brought much physical media before.

I recommend building a core collection of DVDs that have high rewatch value for you. Burn digital films to disc too if that’s your thing.
Buy a core collection of classic books (they are not only Lindy but can be found for very cheap secondhand)

CDs are very cheap, LPs are for favourite albums that you want to savour.
LP collecting can be ruinously expensive if you aren’t careful.
The point is nothing in life is free. We have all opted to pay with our privacy & rights rather than with currency.
A poor trade-off

This is why there are few new guitar bands today. Everyone opting to stream and pirate means that the economics of being in a band are no longer viable, as I discuss here... https://thomasjbevan.substack.com/p/whatever-happened-to-my-rock-and
So, If you are interested in helping an authentic culture regenerate at a grassroots level, then buy music via bandcamp and fund record pressing campaigns via sites like qrates.
Buy self published books, directly from the author if possible.

Find ways to find indie film such as my friend @codyclarke ’s studio which is run on a monthly sub of a mere $2/mo
That’s a laughably low sum given the difference it could make if enough people voted with their wallets rather than just complained

So I’m short, as with everything in life, put your money where your mouth is.
What you support is perpetuated.
What you amplify grows (both good and bad)
The choices you make have consequences.
