*Thread* - Discipline is bull****

There's only 2 things which GUARANTEE you get things done 👇🏼
Fear can push you forward or push you back

It depends where you place it

Place it behind you & the fear pushes you forward

This is when non-negotiable commitment is made externally

- Job
- Clients expecting work
- Followers awaiting a launch/set schedule of content
When the fear is in front of you it pushes you back

Discipline is stronger reactive vs proactive

Proactive is when despite no immediate rewards/consequences you force yourself to do something with willpower

Putting the fear behind you adds consequences for not getting it done
In my experience there is only 2 ways things get done consistently

1) Fear is put behind you - job, commitments, clients, expectations, promises, contracts

Zero room for negotiation or interpretation when it comes to doing the work
Leave room for interpretation/negotiation the mind will come up with excuses

The more intelligent/creative you are the better you will be at formulating brilliant & compelling excuses which make logical sense

2) The only other way I believe things get consistently done is...
Enjoyment

Something you'd be doing anyway. For me that's writing & working out

Without consequences or highly compelling rewards it's something I would still be doing anyway
The problem is the default approach

Consciously using willpower to force your way through fear while it is still in front of you

Get skin in the game

Get work/clients
Spend money
Make promises
Accountability

Make getting it done not a choice, not a should, but a MUST
I also don't want this to be mistaken for 'burning the boats'

Reckless behavior putting you in a desperate situation

For example blowing all your money to add pressure

Trust me, this does not work as well as it sounds

It triggers too much stress, too much pressure
Which makes you unable to think

Unable to have patience, makes you way too needy to be able to focus

Fight or flight response triggered, you become too stupid & desperate to think or function in that state of mind

When I say make getting it done not a choice....
I mean in the form of commitment
Not in throwing yourself in a ditch to dig out of

Like working a job
It doesn't cross your mind to 'maybe' show up

You just go and do the work

When I worked retail years ago or as a personal trainer...
It wasn't a 'choice' lol
I had to be there

Otherwise there would be consequences

When doing creative work, building followings, working on our own time, being self employed

It's easy to break promises to ourselves (this is something we can re-wire, topic for another thread)
There is a lot of power in combining the two factors we mentioned

1) Putting the fear behind you
2) Making the task more enjoyable

🔑The more we desire the reward, the more we project it as being a big deal

Creating a illusion of a bigger price to pay for it
To get in insanely good shape all I did was..

1) Add 2 heavy lifts to the beginning of my workouts

2) Kept eating what I wanted but capped it at 2400 calories & had a target for protein

3) Skipped breakfast no meal until noon (intermittent fasting)
Just that brought my bench from 225-340 in 8 months

Got in incredible shape from those 3 small changes

The reason I was able to do this is...

I didn't over-project the value of the result

I wasn't in bad shape
I already was going to the gym but winging it
Because there was less NEEDINESS & projected price to pay

I was cool making those tiny tweaks

3x a week going to the gym, the only difference was adding 2 heavy lifts

Compound that effort over 8 months...

Results were insane

This same thing applies in anything you're doing
If you just added 1-2 tasks per day. Just 1-2 hours

That's it. 1-2 hours money generating/productive tasks

Doing things which puts the fear behind you instead of in-front of you

sht would get done, 6mo-1 year would blow your mind how much those 1-2 hours make a difference
Final note...incorporating enjoyability

Life isn't a motivational 'grind' video

Suffering pointlessly is cringe

Make it more enjoyable however you choose

Maybe that's listening to music
Reward of a smoothie or your favorite coffee spot after

10 Minute walk breaks every hour
Maybe it's doing the same work but with a type of client or in a niche you enjoy more

Figure out what it is for you

Like my fitness example

I still had my favorite foods, but kept it to a 2400cal window

I didn't eat chicken & broccoli making it impossible to stick to/enjoy
So in summary:

- Put the fear behind you instead of infront of you

- Make it as enjoyable as possible

- Aim for better not perfect, add 1-2 hours of tasks that are better, not perfect, not 'right', just better
