Let’s be clear here. The mob Wednesday came perilously close to seizing control of the Congress and its leaders. Had they succeeded, certain actions would have likely resulted:
1.) The real leaders of the mob, the paramilitaries with zip ties, would have, “arrested” Pelosi. 1/

2.) These so-called patriots would have demanded Nancy resign. I’m confident she would have told them to go to hell. They would then resort to murder or torture to create a vacancy.
3.) They would have brought McCarthy back to the chamber and offered him the gavel. 2/

4.) McCarthy would have accepted. If he paused, Scalise would have stepped in. The GOP would then have held a rump session overturning the election results and proclaiming Trump elected. Meanwhile, mob members would hunted down Democrats and used that noose outside. 3/
5.) A similar scene would have played out in the Senate. Pence would have been captured after a shootout with his Secret Service protectors. Unlike Pelosi, Pence would have meekly complied with their demands to rule Biden electors invalid. He would thus avoid the noose. 4/
6.) Of course, the terrorists would need a Senate floor leader. With McConnell held under guard in his office, the rioters would choose between Cruz or Hawley, either of whom would happily assume the role. That choice would be made by Trump, who would be on phone with rioters.5/
7.) Once the election was certified for Trump, notwithstanding that it would have been accomplished by illegal force, he would have gleefully proclaimed victory and announced plans to be inaugurated 1/20. 6/
8.) Up at Capitol Hill, any Democratic senators captured would have been bound and gagged and forced to watch the travesty unfold. Romney would be hanging outside next to Schiff, on Trump’s orders. 7/
9.) Most Republican senators would sit in silence, unbound next to their gagged D colleagues. Collins would express concern. Meanwhile “patriots” would hunt down AOC and other Democratic women for sexual humiliation and assault. 8/
10./ Matt Gaetz would hail the coup but blame any rapes of Democratic women on antifa. Fox News would pick up the theme. 9/
11.) After the illegal certification, leading Hill Trumpsters would address the crowd, hailing them as patriots in a “1776 moment.” Speakers would include Cruz, Blackburn, Hawley, Mo Brooks, Scalise, Gaetz, McCarthy. 10/
12.) After this the Reign of Terror begins, unless the military and federal law enforcement resist. Trump would order arrests of Biden, Harris, Obama, Hillary and seize full control of Twitter. Mobs would attack media offices, starting with CNN, MSNBC, WaPo. 11/
13.) I’ll end my scenario here. Anyone who finds it implausible must have been asleep last week. But when you see tweets from Cruz, Hawley, Blackburn, Scalise, etc., decrying Biden’s blunt words as a threat to unity, consider what they’d be saying now if the putsch had won. 12/
14.) And when House Rs moan that a new impeachment would be divisive, consider how many would have cheered the sight of a handcuffed Pelosi paraded before them. And when they complain about Twitter censorship, know their real concern is it makes a second coup more difficult.END
