So I want to say a thing, but I don't want to cause harm to anyone who follows me because of Riverland or is dealing with survivor things of their own, so I'm going to thread it below this tweet in just a minute and you can mute as needed.
The GOP talking point of "this will all be so much easier on everyone if you just let that small treason/coup/murder attempt thing go and help us heal" is so straight out of the domestic violence abuser's handbook it is sick.
The "we promise we won't do that anymore" or "that was just because you made me so angry" undercurrents (and the media buying into it) is also part of this talking point.
As is the expectation that the people who were put into direct fear of their lives due to the nature of the behavior perpetrated by those who are now demanding healing treatment. Just No. Nope.
The entire GOP has a domestic violence problem, and the house it is abusing is this country. The current leadership is perpetrating it, but the GOP itself is supporting it.
Expectations that actions have no consequences and forgiveness must be immediate and unquestioning, and where memories of past actions in the same vein are viewed as personal betrayals rather than establishments of behavior and matters of character? Ditto.
Media that is in any way pushing for the GOP talking points is supporting domestic violence on the country. It is not about healing or treating the perpetrators with kid gloves. It is right now about keeping the people who are in danger safe.
Thank you to everyone who has met this thread with kindness and thoughtful reflection - I wanted to let you know that I saw you and that I'm grateful for you.
