Today’s project start to make duck board paths for the vegetable garden from pallets.
Making paths from pallets: Zack introduces...
The plan is to take the back off first. We learned the hard way there are many hard ways to break down a pallet and at least one easy way! ...
Taking the pallet apart the hard way. We tried to just pry the boards off at the corners. The boards were just breaking...
We found that sawing the back board near the block at each end like this allowed us to use the board as a lever and the board and the middle block came off.
We cut right across the pallet with a circular saw to one one side of the middle back board
Removing the blocks was pretty easy just a few whacks with the lump hammer and used the pry bar. Now to nail the board we cut off earlier onto the back of the narrower section.
Zack demonstrates his hammer skills!
The finished project. One board 18x47 inches, one 22x47. We will have 2 paths of different widths... This took about 3 hours. The next one should be much quicker.
It was cold. You can see the ice on the wood in the last pic here..
An icy walled garden where we picked up the pallets this morning. Better than mud I suppose.
