I've been doing some breakdowns for @TheUndroppables rookie player profile series that will be coming out soon and one of the players I'm profiling is Ohio State RB Trey Sermon. If you caught our way too early rookie draft, you already know I love this kid [THREAD]
But I wanted to give a little sneak peak at this kid and showcase why I love him so much. Here, his impressive footwork is on display. The Northwestern defender has him dead to rights for a 3 yard loss.
But Sermon sticks his left foot and shows great burst in the hole. He then showcases his tremendous foot drive and the ability to keep his legs churning for an eight yard gain.
Here we see it again. The defender has penetrated the offensive line and has Sermon one on one.
But he makes one cut and because it's blocked so we'll. Seriously, look at this blocking... There aren't any Northwestern defenders close to him. So everyone did their job here and the result?
Sermon is out the gate! He turns what could have been a four yard loss into a 50+ yard jaunt. By breaking down not one but two defenders who were left one on one.

⬇️This was the second level broken tackle on the same run.
Result? He gone. (Almost)
Here is another run that displays his fantastic Vision and ability to get to the next level. This play is designed to go left and Sermon sees the hole and explodes backside.
The Northwestern Game was a clinic for Sermon and the Ohio State run game. They pounded the Wildcats with counters, pitches, veers, traps, they went off tackle whenever they wanted and continued it into the Clemson game. Sermon has shown the versatility to do it all.
He has great contact balance, runs behind his pads and uses his off arm to shuck defenders. He doesn't have elite speed but his vision and burst make up for any deficiencies. He has also shown the ability to be a reliable check down option.
It's going to be hard to keep this kid from my top four. He reminds me of everything Joe Mixon was supposed to be.
