Conservatives complain about bias in media, pop culture, big tech, but very few on the right attempt to innovate and compete and the few that do seldom try to make anything with mass appeal. 1/
People who preach free market economics, capitalism, entrepreneurship waste millions on super PACs and grifter lobbyists but can’t be arsed to create anything with mainstream appeal that might have some influence on the culture. 2/
Make no mistake, this is a cultural problem. Building platforms which only attract right wing refugees might make someone some money but it’s never going to change the world like Twitter or Facebook did. 3/
I did some research a few years ago on pop culture websites started with cash from venture capital companies. I found sites with typically default-left viewpoints bankrolled by firms who overwhelmingly donated to Republican candidates. 4/
The Trump story is almost a parable. Here’s a guy with lots of money and the chops to create hit tv shows. Instead of building on that he takes himself out of that arena and jumps into Republican politics. 5/
Trump accomplished some things conservatives like, but apart from SCOTUS they’ll mostly go away now. Worse than that he damaged the already frail ability of conservatism to influence the culture for God knows how long. 6/
He could’ve bought a movie studio or invested in some nerds trying to build the next big thing or whatever. Now he can’t because nothing he creates can be anything but hyper partisan in appeal. 7/
TL/DR version: stop pissing away money on political grifters getting rich off your anger and go make something. 8/8
