The development of Eren and Mikasa relationship From~ I’m not your brother nor your child to What am I to you? Part 2
1. In season 2,we see a flashback of a conversation between Eren and his mother, where Eren finally understands how Mikasa always saves him, he tries to be more understanding of her and wants to save her in return of her kindness,also by being there for her.
2. It is hinted at again by Levi, who states that he doesn’t know why Mikasa is attached to Eren, when in reality Mikasa likes Eren a lot, but she struggles to acknowledge her felling and to tell him. Whereas, Eren is still oblivious to his feelings for Mikasa.
3. Mikasa tries everything to save Eren but Reiner and Bertholdt still managed to get away with him. Mikasa feels as if she’s to blame, for letting them get away with Eren. Furthermore, we can infer Mikasa is trying everything to be by his side, no matter what.
4. Later on, Mikasa wakes up and doesn’t see Eren by her side, she feels a sense of loss and discomfort,as Mikasa feels that she failed to protect Eren again and she feels as if she’s lost hope. Also, Mikasa states “she doesn’t want much, just to be by Eren’s side.”
5. Mikasa wraps the scarf around her self as a way of comfort,as the author uses the importance of the scarf, to emphasise that Eren will always be with Mikasa, as their bond is built from the scarf.
6. Furthermore, you can see Mikasa’s feelings growing for Eren as she just wants to feel his presence and be content by being by his side. This implies the deep feelings Mikasa feels for Eren.
7. Later on, when the survey corps go to rescue Eren, Mikasa is motivated and determined, to get Eren back. She even says “she won’t l hesitate to kill them”. From this we can infer, no matter the cost, she will try to bring Eren back.
8. Eventually, Mikasa saves Eren, but the cost was severe, as she had injured herself, when saving Eren. Mikasa didn’t realise at the moment, but Mikasa felt, she couldn’t protect him.
9. But, Hannes gets in the way of Dina, the titan,as Hannes felt that he had to protect the kids he cherishes from his past memories, but he felt as if he owed Eren’s mother, this last opportunity.
10. Mikasa even throws herself in front of Eren to protect him, which shows she cares about Eren. But, Hannes ends up dying and Eren feels useless, as he couldn’t save him, and apologises to his mother,as he still feels weak and unable to change anything from the past.
11. In this moment, we see a shift in focus,where everything is just focused on Mikasa and Eren. Mikasa tells Eren “none of this is true”,she smiles at Eren, which calms down Eren’s nerves, and finally gives Eren the chance to look at Mikasa and understand what she is portraying.
12. Finally, Mikasa tells him thank you for being by her side and for wrapping the scarf around her. This moment Eren realises, what the scarf and everything he done for Mikasa, what it meant to her. The author uses Eren POV to explain what Eren sees in his eyes of Mikasa.
13. In this instance, it is that Eren is not aware of this kind of feelings yet. But, one thing Eren knew that he want to protect Mikasa this time,as she has always tried to protect Eren.
14. Furthermore, the author uses the flowers blossoming, to portray Mikasa’s feelings have finally been expressed, also it shows Mikasa’s genuine feelings for Eren have developed. The purple flowers portray a sense of romance and ever-lasting love.
15. On the other hand, Eren gets up and motivated by Mikasa’s words he punches Dina with his hands, in which activate the power of the coordinate, and he makes a promise that “he will wrap the scarf around forever.”
16. In addition to this, Eren managed to protect Mikasa, from Reiner and Bertholdt,as they were chasing to get Eren back, by using the power of the coordinate, they manage to escape with the survey corps and retreat.
17. Later on, when everyone gets back, Mikasa suffered from broken ribs due to the horse ride back, Eren felt as if it was his fault,as he got caught. Eren then feels apologetic towards Mikasa, but Mikasa’s said it was fine.
18. Furthermore, even Jean makes the interpretation that Eren cares about Mikasa deeply, by saying “Your precious Mikasa.” This implies, Eren doesn’t deny this type of feeling, as he knows that he must protect Mikasa more.
19. In this special stage, Armin says Mikasa couldn’t sleep as she was thinking about what had happened. Mikasa feels useless and weak as she couldn’t protect Eren or Hannes. Furthermore, Mikasa felt as if she failed Eren’a mother promise to protect Eren.
20. Although,she was ready to die, as she could only see Eren, which portrays a sense of guilt, she felt at that point. Mikasa also has a flashback remembering Eren words “The world is Cruel, If you don’t fight you can’t win”, this portrays that Mikasa motivation comes from him.
21. Developing on the point, Mikasa wanted to be by Eren’s side, as she had developed feelings for him and wanted to protect Eren at all costs,even if it meant killing someone who endangers Eren.
