Daniel Jones was drafted #6 overall, and at the time people were already questioning the move by GM Dave Gettleman. He showed signs of promise at Duke, but had his struggles with making decisions and accuracy.
Daniel had to silence the critics just seconds after being drafted, and had virtually no support from the nation as the #6 pick. He walked into a NYG organization that had saw one playoff game in the past 9 years. The odds were stacked against him from the get go.
In his rookie year, he he threw over 20 passing TDs and had a 2/1 TD/INT ratio. He showed signs of improvement while being in a fairly stagnant offense besides from Saquon (who played 13 games). They lacked major o-line pieces and a WR core that couldn’t stay healthy.
While already not having enough to be given a real chance, he still managed to move the offense and provide some much needed hope for the NYG franchise as a whole.

Fast forward to the 2020 season, and he’s now back with the SAME WR core (who again couldn’t stay on the field) , while also losing their generational RB to a season ending injury. Add that with bringing in a new HC/OC, no offseason, this man was set up to fail in 2020.
The Giants have in no way set up for Jones to succeed, and if they want things to start to change they have to add some elite playmakers to this offense. Jones isn’t going to elevate the play of many, but with the right surrounding pieces he can absolutely have a bounce back year
Jones needs a big year 3, to prove to people he’s got what it takes to be a top 12-16 QB in the NFL, but I’ll be damned to say it’s all his fault when the Giants haven’t surrounded him with players who can even stay on the field.
While adding Saquon back next year will boost the offense, they need to address WR. Shepard hasn’t stayed on the field, plain and simple. He’s been inconsistent in trying to stay healthy and the Giants need to look elsewhere.
Slayton is a nice piece, but isn’t ready for the WR1 role. He’s a perfect complimentary piece to a Will Fuller or Allen Robinson. This FO (front office) needs to get their QB some help.
Joe Judge has taken the right steps so far, and the future of the NYG hangs in the balance.

While they started to add o-line help in the prior offseason, the o-line struggled for most of 2020, when it finally started to look as it was coming together late down the stretch. The FO needs to protect their investment and get him some riches to work with outside of Saquon.
So no, Daniel Jones isn’t the past yet. It would be hard to write him off this quick when the odds have been stacked against him. Give him time, pieces, and watch him go to work.
