A lot of people don’t understand the traditional relationship between business and politics. With the stroke of a pen a politician can create opportunity or remove it. This is why corporations, unions etc., endorse and contribute to the politicians of their choosing.
Myself, I never paid any attention to this until I became a legitimate business man. Government contracts, regulations, taxes, subsidies, bailouts, etc., directly and indirectly impact all businesses. The telecommunications act of 1996 is a great example of this.
The independent small media outlets simply couldn’t compete because a law was passed that gave the advantage to big business. I bet people really think the Affordable Health Care Act was done to help the people. It was like manna from Heaven for health insurers and big pharma.
Now, Covid has done to a variety of industries what the telecommunications act did to media. The stock market is booming as businesses tank and revenue is redirected to fewer hands. So much so, the tail now wags the dog in politics on levels not seen until now.
