Straight up, I never followed Trump. In fact, early on, I muted his account, so all y'all trying to rt and snark on his stupid tweets would be off my TL. I honestly don't care for him that he got his account deleted.
However, the issue is that they didn't just take Trump. They didn't just take some qanon people (yet left the pedos, huh). They took normal decent people who lean right, who have never incited violence, and were aghast at Wednesday's riot.
That should bother you. A LOT.
I have seen, in the last few months, people on the political Left, many bluechecks, openly call for re-education camps for people on the Right. I have seen a member of Congress demand votes no longer be secret, to create 'lists'.
I have seen people insist that if you voted for Trump, you shouldn't have a job. And they say this with absolute certitude. Not 'have you committed a felony while in a riot for your side, if so, you should not have a job' but...if you voted for the guy at any time, KAPUTSKI
And many of y'all saying this are college-educated and beyond and that's the part that horrifies me the most. Did you never learn about Hitler's purges? Stalin's? Mao's? Do you not remember the travesty that was the Patriot Act?
And now I am seeing the message go out that 'oh the people at the riots weren't the poor and disenfranchised but the middle class because you need money to travel'. Which is interesting for a number of reasons.
1) when some idiot points out that a person looted a pricy store this summer, the same people were arguing that it was 'reparations'.
2) when someone critiqued a protestor in Portland for having pricy gear, they were told it wasn't their business to decide how someone spends $
3) Hell, when some dipshit argued against UBI that people would blow their money on stupid shit like fancy sneakers and video games, instead of food and housing, they were shouted down, told that poor people deserved nice things, too.
So you have someone who may have taken their money, what they have left, and pooled it to drive cross country or to fly on record-low-cheap flights...to a protest. But that's different? Bizarre.
And another chilling thing I saw was now there's an attempt to argue that ANYONE who attended the protest, not just the people who broke into the Capitol, should be arrested, charged, placed on no-fly lists, no-hire lists. Have their lives ruined, even though they were peaceful.
Let me be clear for the dummies: if you broke into the Capitol, you should be charged. If you destroyed property you should be charged. That has been my stance ALL YEAR. If you fucked around with federal security, you should be thrown in a hole so deep they forget your name
In other words--if you broke a window, whether it be in the Capitol or a Target store, YOU SHOULD BE CHARGED. But if you broke into the Capitol and endangered national security, YOU SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH A FUCKTON OF OTHER STUFF ON TOP.
BUT, if you went to a protest, because you wanted to hold up your sign and chant your chants and have your voice heard, and you did nothing beyond that, you should face NO sanctions, because peaceful protest is the root of 1A.
Mind you, I don't go to protests. I used to think that they were just mindless shows of narcissism--white kids with free time doing photo ops to act as if they gave a shit. (That was my exp with protestors in college--they built their shantytowns in the quad and nothing changed)
But these last few years (not just this summer) showed me that protests are useless. When you have mayors stating that we should let looters loot and rioters destroy property because they are 'expressing their pain' they are doing two things:
1) they are viewing protests as a 'vent'. You, the protestor, just want to be heard. There's no indication that anyone else needs to listen. So you protest about police brutality, you get your day, and nothing ever fucking changes. Bc of....
2) the inherent infantilization. Politicians now treat protestors as if they were toddlers throwing a tantrum. Your 2 year old throws a fit because you won't buy them candy. You let them throw their fit...and you don't buy the candy. In other words, treating protestors as babies
Now, that's infuriating, because that means politicians now clearly view protests as something they don't need to listen to. It's just babies screaming in the toy aisle.

But now it's worse.
Because now we're being fed the lie (and again, some college educated smart people are gobbling it up) that if you even attended or voted for Trump, you should be treated as if you were right there in the mob. No job for you. No flying for you. Hell, soon, no email or bank acct
During this pandemic, there's been a slow trickle of ever more horrifying news out of China. Not just the pandemic, but arrests of protestors. Night and Fog style disappearances.
And this week CCP OPENLY tweets bragging about how it forcibly sterilized and tortured Uyghurs.
Like, they're not even TRYING to hide it any more.

And your silence is deafening. You think Trump is awful (he is) but you think the CCP is A-OK? You think them controlling imagery in movies is fine. Slave labor? Gr8!

No, You're the evil ones. You are.
And we're becoming China so fast that it makes me physically dizzy when I think about it. Because of COURSE y'all think China's actions are fine, because you want the same shit here. YOU want 're-education camps'. YOU want silencing and purging of any other political party.
The ultimate irony is y'all who have been throwing the word "Nazi" around as the ultimate insult...are basically walking in their blood-soaked footsteps, smiling all the way.
Please rethink your course. Please, turn back. There's a better way forward.
