The only way to defeat polarization and misinformation long-term is with better local news sources. This means federal funding of news. Social media purging of right-wing and/or lying people and accounts is not actually going to solve this problem.
What happens now? As the right exits Facebook and Twitter, they head elsewhere. They will be further polarized and deeper into their own worlds. They'll have their own networks. Bad things will keep happening.
In the interim, the social media companies that control what we see - who wield more power than any elected person or judge - need to be transparent and held accountable. They are far too powerful. Anti-trust is a start.
My fear is Facebook and Twitter have bought the goodwill of liberals by kicking Trump out and momentum will be lost for real anti-trust action. "Oh, Facebook, they're the good guys now!"

If this happens, nothing will change.
