alright, a little bit of Bucks/Jazz
Like when the Bucks run the Middleton/Giannis P&R out of transition. Gives a defense a chance to make a mistake while trying to get back. O'Neale switches, Bogie fights over and that's enough room for Giannis to get downhill. Weakside comes in late.
You don't need me to tell you the Jazz look different when they get stops and are able to push in transition...but they look different when they get those transition opportunities.
Not much you can do vs. Giannis in transition if you're not showing help. Looks like Gobert/Bogdanovic are shading at the elbows but Giannis goes away from Gobert, Bogie not at the elbow, able to finish in the lane.
Key for Utah is getting into O quicker and continuing to play out of it. Screen for Clarkson was denied so they hit Gobert and screen away. Bogie does a good job of holding Lopez in the drop. Giannis has to hold on the roll, nice slide by O'Neale to get an open 3.
Jazz were letting it fly from deep early and often but the Bucks had some trouble with guard/guard pick and rolls in the 1st.
Clarkson screens for Conley here, Donte/Holiday in the action. Should be a switch. Clarkson gets a good angle, Holiday is on the other side. Should be a switch, instead it's almost an under and a pullup 3 for Conley.
Here, Bogdanovic screens for Conley. Middleton/Holiday involved so looks like it should be an easy switch. Middleton stays dropped back as Holiday fights over, just enough room for Bogie to get a 3 off.
O'Neale screens for Clarkson and Giannis stays in a drop. Clarkson turns the corner but Giannis able to get there with Augustin releasing to the pop. Holiday anticipates Lopez stepping up and protects the dunker only Lopez didn't have to leave. Open 3 for Conley.
I know, Giannis in transition is Giannis in transition but man he hit the turbo button here. He's attacking any seam, Clarkson sees it and is sliding to get in position and still doesn't quite get there.
Jazz need more of these possessions. Got in their offense early, kept moving themselves and the ball. Key was when Clarkson got it he didn't default to P&R, passed it to O'Neale got it back and pulled up.
Bucks went to their Hawk set, got a couple options out of it with different results. Great pass by Augustin to hit Holiday cutting, Gobert does a good job recovering to get the block. Next time go all the way, Jazz switch P&R and Middleton gets an ISO vs. Mitchell.
Jazz go with Spain P&R and you see what can happen if the defense doesn't communicate. Portis comes up to the 3PT line to guard vs. the pull up. As a big if you come up that high you have to contain the drive. Mitchell able to split and finish. Gobert was open on roll as well.
One thing I've noticed early this year, Giannis is throwing passes quickly when help comes in. Forbes screens for him, Conley shows and recovers. On the drive sees Gobert coming to help at the rim, throws it right to Lopez for a 3.
Niang screens for Conley and the Bucks don't contain penetration. Nwora is dropped back but you can see the lack of communication. Nwora is trying to recover to his, Forbes is also trying to recover, Conley able to drive and dump to Gobert at the dunker.
Bucks push it off a made basket and you see the attention Giannis draws here. Jazz have 4 guys around him, all 5 guys at one point are shading to that side. Skip to Holiday who can play a big role in making defenses pay for that type of defense.
This was smooth from Donovan Mitchell, had a few nice plays in P&R attacking and taking what the defense gave him rather than forcing. Set Holiday up, saw the defense back, right into a shot.
Jazz got to this low corner, empty side P&R that teams are having a tough time with this year. Lopez is in a drop, Conley able to turn the corner middle. Keeps Middleton on his back, fakes the pass to Gobert, fakes the shot and then dumps it to Gobert late.
I'd like to see Jrue Holiday unleashed a little bit more. Attacks in transition, almost looks like he's playing 21 once he gets in the paint.
Bucks may have to considering using different angles and empty sides when Giannis is a screener. He screens here and Favors is able to stay in a drop and be in position to catch the drive.
